Banarasi silk saree is a greatest desire for Indian women till date. There are various designs, colours, and finishes available in the market. Banarasi Katan silk saree is most famous among them.

The decades long heritage of Banarasi Katan silk sarees is at Varanasi or Banaras, the sacred city of India. Banarasi sarees are classified on the basis of fabric and designs.

Katan silk

Recognize the Banarasi Katan silk that you wish to dress up. Katan is a plain fabric that is woven by twisting two pure silk threads wrap and weft. Katan is a local term used by natives of Varanasi. For katan silk fabric, yarn is conceived by twisting various silk strings for its sturdiness and durability. Katan fabric is exceptional, flexible, and shiny.

EMERGENCE OF KATAN

Mainspring of Katan is from Persia. The women of the royal family during Mughal empire put on extravagant and carefully designed dresses using Katan silk.

VERITIES IN KATAN FABRIC

Jamdani, Jangla, Tanchoi, Kinkhab are widely used lace to produce varieties of Katan fabric.

Silk Mark

There are numerous other things sold under the name of silk, such as art silk and artificial silk. Silk Mark is already in existence to help you in identifying pure silk. The silk consumer has long struggled to identify pure silk among numerous other fabrics just like the consumers of gold were facing difficulty in recognizing its genuineness before the introduction of hallmarks. Consumers and traders of genuine silk demanded that the Central Silk Board introduce measures to include fair practices to the trade. Silk Mark was launched on 17th June 2004. Silk Mark is stimulated by Silk Mark Organization of India (SMOI), a registered society under the Karnataka Society Act 1960. SMOI is an initiative of the Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, and the Government of India. The Silk Mark labels are in the form of paper hang tags and sew-in labels. These are fastened only on pure silk products by the authorized users of Silk Mark. Each label has a hologram and a unique number printed on it, which helps the consumer trace the product back to the authorized user.
